Illustrative workspace
  1. Project

Review destination paths in a dry run, then apply the approved actions.

  2. Review before applying

Compare actual behavior with the expected result. If a check fails, investigate it before applying more changes.

  3. Connection

Base URL, credentials and a reachable server.

Build file automation around a plan you can inspect

A file organizer needs rules before it needs permission to move anything. Use Coderoute, a Windows coding workspace, to develop a script around a selected project folder: which files qualify, where they belong and what should happen when a destination already exists. Keep those decisions in the conversation alongside the code you inspect.

Turn the rules into a proposed move list first. Ask for a dry-run option in your script that prints each source and destination without writing changes. Review ambiguous names, excluded folders and collisions before adding an apply step. This is behavior to implement and test in your project, rather than a promise that every generated script already has it.

Once the preview looks right, try the write path on a disposable copy of a small folder. Compare the actual results with the plan, then run the script again to see whether it repeats work unexpectedly. Coderoute gives the task a project context; you still review edits, inspect commands and run the checks that establish whether the automation works.

Your model connection supports that development process. If you want an unfiltered AI model for coding, choose one available through a supported OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic endpoint and check its provider's terms. The connected model and server determine restrictions, context and tool support. Keep the same review steps whichever model you select.

Before your file script makes its first change

Does Coderoute include a ready-made file organizer?

The organizer is a development example. Use the workspace to build or adapt a script for your own folder rules. Dry-run output, collision handling and the apply step must be present in the code you review and test.

What should I request in a dry run?

Request a source-to-destination list, reasons for skipped files and a clear report of conflicting names. Check that the preview path performs no writes. A printed plan alone does not prove that the script leaves files untouched.

How do I check the script before using my working folder?

Use a disposable copy containing nested directories, duplicate names and files that should be excluded. Compare the preview with the resulting folder contents, inspect failures and test a second run. Preserve a recoverable copy of the originals.

Does choosing a local model make file automation fully local?

A local endpoint needs a separately running model server. It covers that model connection; connected tools or external services may still send data elsewhere. Inspect their permissions and connections before sharing folder contents or running commands.
